How to clear cookies on a browser

This document explains how to clear cookies for a specific site using your browser's built-in developer tools. Use these steps when you are experiencing issues on a page. The following steps will be reviewed:

Clearing cookies in Chrome Browser

While on the page you are having trouble with, use the following steps.

  1. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner of your browser and select 'More Tools' > 'Developer Tools' (or press Ctrl + Shift +I ).

  2. In Developer Tools, click the 'Application' tab. If it is not immediately visible, click '>>' to reveal additional tabs.

  3. In the left panel, expand 'Cookies' and click the domain for the site (e.g., https://developer.com).

  4. Right-click anywhere on the site and select 'Clear'.

  5. Close Developer Tools, refresh the page, and try logging in again.

    Clearing cookies in Edge Browser

    While on the page you are having trouble with, use the following steps.

    1. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner of your browser and select 'More Tools' > 'Developer Tools' (or press Ctrl + Shift +I ).

    2. In Developer Tools, click the 'Application' tab. If it is not immediately visible, click  the square icon as mentioned in the screenshot below.

    3. In the left panel, expand 'Cookies' and click the domain for the site (e.g., https://developer.com).

    4. Right-click anywhere on the site and select 'Clear'.

    5. Close Developer Tools, refresh the page, and try logging in again.

Clearing cookies in Safari

While on the page you are having trouble with, use the following steps.

The 'Develop' menu must be visible in the Safari menu bar before you can open Web Inspector. If you do not see it, complete step 1 first. If it is already visible, skip to step 2. Visit this Apple help page for detailed instructions: How to clear cookies on a Mac

  1. Enable the 'Develop' menu if it is not visible in the Safari menu bar:

    1. In the macOS menu bar, go to 'Safari' > 'Settings' (macOS Ventura and later) or 'Preferences' (earlier versions).

    2. Click the 'Advanced' tab.

    3. Enable 'Show features for web developers' (macOS Sonoma and later) or 'Show Develop menu in menu bar' (earlier versions).

    4. Close the Settings window.

  2. In the macOS menu bar, click 'Develop' and select 'Show Web Inspector' (or press Option + Command + I).

  3. In Web Inspector, click the 'Storage' tab.

  4. In the left panel, expand 'Cookies' and click the domain for the site

  5. Select all cookies in the list (press Command + A), then press the Delete key, or right-click and select 'Delete'.

  6. Close Web Inspector, refresh the page, and try logging in again.
