Important Update Beginning August 2026
NOTE:
This change affects the eSHARE M365 (SharePoint Trusted Sharing) app only. The eSHARE file handler is unaffected — it already updates automatically with no action required from customers.
Once you install the M365 app, eSHARE can auto update the application without requiring you to manually update the app from the SharePoint store. As of August 2026, the app's front-end assets are fetched from eSHARE's content delivery network (CDN) rather than from SharePoint Online (SPO). This allows eSHARE to push updates to the 'External Share' menu button without requiring a new package install — but it also means your organization must allow/whitelist eSHARE's CDN domain so the app can load. See the requirement below before proceeding. This document describes the steps required to update the eShare SharePoint Trusted Sharing App in your organization's M365 tenant. At a high level, the steps involved are:
Update eShare Trusted Sharing for M365 App in SharePoint App Catalog (SharePoint Store)
Update eShare Trusted Sharing for M365 App in SharePoint App Catalog (Custom Package)
REQUIREMENT: CDN Allowlisting (one-time setup)
Because the M365 app is now served from eSHARE's CDN instead of SharePoint Online, your organization must allow/whitelist eSHARE's CDN domain so the app can load. This is a one-time configuration step — once the domain is allowed, no further action is required, as the app continues to receive updates automatically from the CDN.
How you configure this (firewall, proxy, conditional access, or other network security controls) will depend on your organization's specific environment and IT policies.
Deployment
CDN domain to allow
Commercial

Government (Gov Cloud)

Adopting the CDN-Based App
eSHARE is moving the M365 app to a CDN-based delivery model so future updates no longer require a new package install. How you adopt this depends on your deployment type.
Government tenants
Continue using the same custom package upload process described below (see "Update eShare Trusted Sharing for M365 App in SharePoint App Catalog (Custom Package)"). We strongly recommend uploading the new CDN-based package the next time you update, as this is a one-time transition. Going forward, eSHARE develops and tests against the CDN-based method only, so continued support for the legacy (non-CDN) package cannot be guaranteed long-term.
Commercial tenants
The existing SharePoint Store app will be replaced with a new version built on the CDN-based method. If your organization is not yet ready to adopt it — for example, you haven't completed the CDN allowlisting step above — do not run the store update yet; remain on your current package until you're ready.
REQUIREMENT:
The Person performing these steps must have an administrator role assignment of SharePoint Administator role, or the Global Administator role in the destination M365 tenant.
